Core
From Bean Me! Pedia
Foreword
The Core is the book of rules governing the game in its many forms and involves no story or embellishment. Books known as Templates provide pre-made content from story to Skills/Abilities to items and even additional rules. For first time players it is suggested that they check out the website for additional information, help, and tools.
When using the Core keep in mind that following every rule is not necessary except rules in the chapters Attributes, Skill System, Parts of Every Character, and Character Progression and basic Combat and possibly DREAD but reading the rest is advisable. Anything written between OPTIONAL RULE: and :ELUR LANOITPO is part of a rule the game does not consider ‘standard’. It is advisable to at least familiarize yourself with the Terms of Note as the book uses many acronyms.
To play you require a set of standard dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20, and a d%, a # listed before a dX means you roll the die that many times, i.e. 4d6 means roll a six sided die four times) or a computer with a dice simulator and a method of keeping track of information such as pencils and paper or a computer. Provided in the back of the Core for your convenience is a sample character sheet and helpful formulas for you to print off and use.
Of the people playing one will be designated the as the Over Master (OM), the person who controls the world and everything within except for the Player Characters (PC or Player), the characters controlled by the other players in the game. It is the OM’s job to choose the rules and settle disputes that may arise while the PC’s play their characters in the adventure.
Those new to table top pen and paper gaming or role-playing games in general it is advised not sweat the rules. They are there to solve problems and make things easier, not the other way around. If a rule seems to complex or time consuming odds are good if its not one of the ones listed above you can ignore it and the game will play fine. Keep in mind at first things may be slow but the more you play the smoother it will become.
For advanced players, modifying and adding to the rules of the Core is also an option. Rules or systems for handling situations not covered in the Core from other games you have played or you invented may be useful and their preferred method and by all means should be used if they fit with the other systems.
Regardless of how much you have played this or other games, we would just like to wish you a fun time.
Due to its size, the Core is divided into its basic chapters linked below:
